This month's Guyra Lamb and Potato Festival is shaping as the best on record with an old feature returning, according to The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams. Senator Williams will officially open the Festival this Friday the 15th of January at 1pm.
Senator Williams attended last year's event and heard of the disappointment of organisers that since 2002 they had not been able to offer the popular trike rides along the disused railway line because of insurance and access issues. "I decided to take up their case with Local and State Government authorities which involved considerable correspondence, consultations and onsite meetings. The Guyra and District Historical Society Machinery Group which had run the trike rides for the enjoyment of thousands of people refused to give up, and with the support of Guyra Shire Council, the local police and the community we were able to cut through the red tape and gain permission for them to resume this Friday. The trikes will travel south along the railway line for two kilometres and return, and signage will be installed at the Sandon Street road crossing to alert traffic. The rides will also become a feature of the monthly markets in Guyra and at special events. I am looking forward to opening the Lamb and Potato Festival this Friday and I am sure when it concludes on the 27th of this month it will have been a mammoth success", Senator Williams said. |
