The Leader of the Federal Opposition Tony Abbott will visit the Tamworth region this Tuesday. Mr. Abbott has accepted an invitation from The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams to visit a property in the Spring Ridge area to look at the benefits of carbon sequestration in soil.Senator Williams said it will be beneficial for Mr. Abbott to meet Spring Ridge farmer Cam McKellar and hear how he has been able to build up carbon levels in his soil. "Cam has thrown away most of his artificial inputs and is using natural grazing and cropping methods which are leading to healthier soils. He has been able to increase the organic material in the soil, which in turn has led to an increase in soil carbon, and it's this aspect that Mr. Abbott is keen to learn about as the Coalition is in the process of developing its own environmental policy. He has shown in his short time as Opposition Leader a willingness to seek public input and feedback on important issues and I'm looking forward to hosting him on Tuesday", Senator Williams said. Mr. Abbott will start the day by attending Australia Day activities in Tamworth. |
