| An air of resolve to continue to fight for Exceptional Circumstances was the cornerstone of a public meeting at Bundarra according to The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams.
Around 100 people from the Bundarra district and surrounding areas of Barraba, Bingara, Myall Creek and Wandsworth are demanding an explanation from Federal Primary Industries Minister Tony Burke as to why their application was rejected two weeks ago. Senator Williams said for the National Rural Advisory Council to simply say the district did not meet the criteria is not good enough. "The people need more details than that. Was it about the rainfall totals, was it about stocking rates? It is obvious that an application for a revised area has to be more specific on rainfall totals as the map prepared by Industry and Investment was criticised by many as being incorrect. The meeting has formed a committee with representation from all areas, and this committee will be seeking data from farmers in their immediate district, so a revised application with possible new boundaries can be submitted through the New South Wales Minister for Primary Industries Steve Whan. After the meeting I was taken on a drive through a number of properties off the Georges Creek Road and if the NRAC representatives had taken the time to do the same when they visited Bundarra in January they may have had a different opinion. I will be working with the Bundarra Committee to achieve this", Senator Williams said. |
