SCHOOLS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANZAC DAY COMPETITION

The Nationals Duty Senator for New England John Williams is urging schools throughout the electorate to take part in this year's Anzac Day Schools' Awards.

Senator Williams said the competition encourages students to learn about Anzac Day and why veterans are commemorated on this special day. Individual classes or schools as a whole may enter.

"A national prize of $2,000 will be awarded to the primary and secondary school whose entry displays a high level of accuracy, originality and involvement with local veterans.

A prize of $1000 is available for the best entry in each State from a primary and secondary school.

Whilst our diggers are dwindling in number each year, it is imperative current and future generations never forget the sacrifices that have been made for this country.

I encourage those intending to enter to visit the Australian War Memorial website at www.awm.gov.au to gain valuable information, or contact their local ex-service organisation.

Entries close on the 21st of May, and my office has sent details of the awards to schools in New England", Senator Williams said.

Senator Williams will represent the President of the Senate at the Anzac Day service at Hellfire Pass on the Thai-Burma Railway.
