The elevation of Julia Gillard to the office of Prime Minister should not give Australians too much hope that things will change, according to The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams. Senator Williams said the ruthless Labor machine controlled by the unions has again shown it takes no prisoners when it comes to disposing of its leaders and the factions fight over the spoils. He said Julia Gillard will be no different to Kevin Rudd. “People must remember she has presided over Labor’s bungled Building the Education Revolution which has cost taxpayers many hundreds of millions of dollars more than it should have. Ms. Gillard wears the blame for Labor’s bungled $1.2 billion blow out in the computers in schools program, the abolition of the Australian Technical Colleges, and the delivery of only 13 of the promised 2,650 Trades Training Centres in every government secondary school. She sold out parents by abandoning Labor’s pledge to build 260 Child Care Centres, instead halting the program after just 38 were built. And her overhaul of the youth allowance legislation had no regard for the challenges faced by regional students in getting to University. Julia Gillard could not run these important programs. She was part of the so-called “kitchen cabinet” of four which made unpopular decisions and developed unpopular policies. Why should she now be trusted to run the biggest business in the nation? The faction leaders and union bosses who pull the levers will be gloating today but this has not been a win for regional Australia”, Senator Williams said. |
