If Australians thought they would get a more accountable and trustworthy Government when the Independents gave Labor the nod to rule , it has not taken long for them to be defrauded according to the Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams. Senator Williams said prior to the election Prime Minister Julia Gillard could not have been more adamant that no Government she led would introduce a carbon tax. He said the ink is barely dry on her agreement with the Greens when she looks Australians in the eye and virtually says "don't believe a word I said". "Now Climate Change Minister Greg Combet refuses to rule out a carbon tax. This is proof Labor may be in Government but the Greens will run the agenda. On one hand Greens Leader Bob Brown says the carbon tax will be on polluters and not on the people, yet he evaded answering the question of the impact of the carbon price on electricity prices by saying the cost would be higher if no action is taken on climate change. I can assure Senator Brown that a carbon tax or an emissions trading scheme will force up the cost of living for all Australians, and will affect our trade competitiveness. The Gillard Government is showing it is weak on policy and will not stand up to their new alliance partners", Senator Williams said. |
