CALROSSY STUDENT WINS SENATE PRIZE FOR SECOND SUCCESSIVE YEAR

Calrossy Anglican School student Emma Greenland has won the prestigious Richard Baker Senate Essay Prize for the second successive year.

Emma, who has just completed Year 12 at Calrossy Anglican School in Tamworth, has written a strong essay on the subject “How have committees contributed to the Senate’s accountability function”.

The topic marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Senate committee system.

The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams said he was delighted to present the NSW award to Emma last year, and he is looking forward to making the same presentation this year.

“Emma’s essay is outstanding and uses reference material to highlight the role of Senate committees. She has obviously done an enormous amount of research and the result is a well constructed article.

Emma will receive $250 and Calrossy Anglican School will also receive $250.

The Richard Baker Senate Essay Prize is in its second year and is a good opportunity for senior school students to learn more about the workings of the Senate”, Senator Williams said.

Emma’s winning essay can be found at http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/dept/prizes/2010/winners/greenland.htm
