| Wednesday November 24 marks three years since the 2007 Federal election.
Australians were told by Kevin from Queensland that he was their saviour and they must rid themselves of the Howard Coalition Government. Three years on and Kevin from Queensland is no longer top dog, and Australia is littered with broken promises and failed programs. The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams said Novmber 24 is not a day for celebration, but a day to reflect on the train wreck that has become the Gillard Labor Government. Senator Williams said in the aftermath of the Building the Education Revolution which has lined the pockets of State Governments and managing contractors, and the bungled home insulation scheme which has cost almost as much to fix as it did to implement, Labor has not learnt its lesson. “The solution to the ‘biggest moral challenge of our time’, the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, became the biggest backdown of our time and efforts to rescue it since including the farcical Citizens Assembly concept have been shelved. Prime Minister Gillard’s credibility is totally shot by her change of heart on a carbon tax, categorically ruling it out before the election but now putting it on the table at the behest of the Greens. This is the most blatant example of how the Labor Party now dances to the agenda of the Greens. “The former Rudd Government failed to consult with mining companies before announcing its super profits resource tax, and then it did not take the Gillard Government long to change the name of the tax but still upset most of the mining industry. Now we have smoke and mirrors surrounding the National Broadband Network which the Government is trying to keep from prying eyes but at the same time demands it be endorsed. “On the third anniversary of Labor’s return to Government, there is nothing to be thankful for as the nation struggles under a mounting Federal Government debt of $172 billion and a litany of problems that they appear incapable of solving,” Senator Williams said. |
