Labor and the Greens have again shown their contempt for cattlemen in the high country of Victoria by voting down a notice of motion in the Senate today.
The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams moved that the Senate note with concern the decision of Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke to order the removal of 400 cattle from the Alpine National Park despite undisputed evidence that grazing reduces fuel levels which reduces the risk and severity of bushfire. “If we are going to lock up country and leave it, bushfires are inevitable. This will destroy the environment, kill the animals and destroy timber. The Greens call this conservation. Australians call it stupidity.” The Minister’s direction was to appease the Greens, and this confirms without doubt the Greens are now running the nation”, Senator Williams said. |
