| Veterans and ex-service people in Gloucester will benefit from Saluting Their Service grant funding, the Nationals Duty Senator for Lyne John Williams has announced.
Saluting Their Service grants aim to highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia's servicemen and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Senator Williams said Gloucester RSL Sub-Branch will receive $2,760. "It will help upgrade the Gloucester War Memorial Clock Tower and the honour board at the Gloucester Soldiers Club to show recent conflicts and names of local veterans who have served since the Vietnam War. These grants promote appreciation and understanding of the role that those who have served have played in shaping the nation. I am pleased the funds are still available to assist veterans' organisations in our local community, especially as we approach the 96th anniversary of the ANZAC landing. However, I am concerned that the Gillard Labor Government is yet to establish a budget to fund commemorative events associated with the Centenary of the Anzac landing in 2015. Many organisations in Lyne still don't know whether there will be any financial assistance available to help with co-ordination of local events to allow the community to be involved", Senator Williams said. |
