| The Nationals Duty Senator for New England John Williams says he welcomes the interest of his Senate leader Barnaby Joyce in standing for election in New England.
Senator Williams said before people get too excited, there is a process that has to be followed and a lot can change between now and then. "At some point between now and the next election nominations for pre-selection will be called and anyone who has been a financial member for 12 months or longer will be eligible to stand. "Senator Joyce may be one of those potential candidates and there may be others. People are telling us they are disenchanted with their current representation in New England and they want a change of government. We have been encouraged by the strong support for The Nationals at the recent State election and the strong support for our Federal campaign to defeat the carbon tax and hold the Labor-Greens-Independent alliance to account for their economic mismanagement. The Nationals are always on the lookout for people to join our team and I encourage anyone with an interest to come forward. Ultimately it is the grassroots members who will decide who the candidate will be. The people of New England can be sure that The Nationals will be offering them a strong alternative at the next Federal election", Senator Williams said. |
