OAKESHOTT TO COST JOBS AND INDUSTRIES IN LYNE

The unwavering support for a carbon tax by the Member for Lyne Rob Oakeshott should be the final straw for people in his electorate.

Mr.Oakeshott is again today urging the Labor-Greens alliance to stick with the carbon tax in direct contrast to what the majority of Australia is saying, according to the Nationals Duty Senator for Lyne John Williams.

Senator Williams said the latest Newspoll shows 60 percent of voters oppose a carbon tax but just as he does on many other issues such as youth allowance, Mr. Oakeshott ignores the views of his constituents.

"He says people 'should recognise the economic opportunity and economic importance of the carbon tax'.  But the only thing they will recognise is the dole queue as they are put out of work and industries shut down.

They will recognise their electricity bill which will skyrocket by hundreds of dollars each year. They will be left bewildered by their dwindling purchasing power at the supermarket checkout as food prices increase.

Of course, people will have to find extra money just to fuel up the car to get to the supermarket.

Before last year's election the Prime Minister and Treasurer ruled out a carbon tax.

Mr.Oakeshott should hold them to their word and in the process show concern for his constituents in Lyne and the majority of Australians ahead of his loyalty to Julia Gillard and Bob Brown", Senator Williams said.
