| The Nationals Duty Senator for New England John Williams today invited Prime Minister Julia Gillard to address a public meeting in the New England electorate to explain the ramifications of her government’s carbon tax.
Senator Williams has written to the Prime Minister offering to facilitate a meeting in the town of her choice so that families, business people and the farming community can hear what effect the carbon tax will have on their lives. He said he felt compelled to invite Ms. Gillard after the Member for New England Tony Windsor declared he has a mandate to vote the tax through without asking his electorate. “My office is fielding complaints from residents throughout the length and breadth of New England who feel their voice is not being heard. They are livid with Mr. Windsor for not representing them. People are confused about how much they will be paying for electricity and the effect on the cost of living. Farmers and trucking companies want to know if they will lose all or part of the diesel fuel rebate. The Prime Minister says she will be travelling everywhere to sell this tax. I hope she accepts my invitation to visit New England and let people have their say, a right that Mr. Windsor is denying them”, Senator Williams said. |
