| The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams has queried whether parts of the proposed carbon tax are in breach of the Federal Constitution.
Senator Williams said Section 114 of the Constitution clearly states that the Commonwealth cannot impose any tax on property of any kind belonging to the State. Senator Williams said he is looking forward to hearing the views of Chief Executive Officer of the State-owned Macquarie Generation Russell Skelton when he appears before the Senate Select Committee on the Scrutiny of New Taxes tomorrow (Friday the 22nd of July) in Sydney. He said it could even be a matter for the High Court. |

no doubt this tax and the compensation suggested is both bounty for some and tax for others uneven as in the begining there were to be 1000 "big Polluters and now there is 500, some will be taxed unevenly and some will be compensated unevenly, the issue of free carbon credits for some and none for others and so on.
The carbon tax is a bounty or a loan scam if the greens get the taxpayer to fork out 370 billion dollars for a failed "renewables" scheme instead of direct action on power generation to go to gas over time for 35 billion dollars figures given by Melbourne Uni for "renewables" and General Electric at our dollar value in our favour.
Hope this constitutional angle gets some traction.
