CYCLISTS HEADING THROUGH NEW ENGLAND FOR LIFELINE

Two cyclists left a chilly Canberra this morning on the ride of their life to Brisbane and have a good message impart along the way.

The Nationals Duty Senator for New England John Williams was amongst those who farewelled Philippa Seldon and Gary Lilley from Parliament House as they embark on a bike ride through Wollongong, Sydney, the Central Coast, the Hunter Valley, New England and the North Coast.

They will arrive in Brisbane on the 10th of September which is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Senator Williams said the ride is in memory of Philippa’s brother Dale who took his own life at the age of 35.

“Along the way Philippa and Gary will be spreading the word about suicide prevention and attempt to break down the taboo about suicide.  Every 15 minutes in Australia someone attempts suicide, and sadly every four hours someone is successful.

Their ride is also to highlight the role of Lifeline and its counselling service.

I am pleased to see cyclists from clubs at Tamworth, Armidale and Inverell will be joining them for all or part of the Tamworth to Armidale leg. This will give Philippa and Gary plenty of encouragement”, Senator Williams said.

Schedule – 1st September afternoon – arrive Lifeline office in Tamworth

- 2nd rest day in Tamworth

- 3rd Leave Tamworth Information Centre at 9am

- 3rd Afternoon arrive Armidale Lifeline office at 4pm

- 4th Armidale to Coffs Harbour.
