| Today's disastrous polling figures for the Gillard government should be the catalyst for Independents Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott to pull their support and take Australians to an election.
Labor is at 27% primary vote which is 8% lower than the last poll taken just prior to former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd being removed. 68% percent of Australians are dissatisfied with the performance of current Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams says even the most glued-on Labor supporters such as the Member for New England and Member for Lyne must now realise this government is heading to the point of no-return and the electorate has given up on them. Senator Williams said that 12 months ago the Independents gave stability as the reason they sided with Labor. They can no longer claim this is a stable government. "We have a Prime Minister who is being openly challenged from within her own government ranks on key issues and there is increasing doubt she can remain in the job until the next election. There are too many leaks coming from within Labor to have any confidence that this government can ever recover. Labor is tearing itself apart with internal wranglings. The asylum seeker mess has been the nail in the coffin, but it is a party divided on the carbon tax, handling of the economy and mandatory pre-commitment on poker machines. Australians deserve better than an incompetent government that is starting to look very much like the dying days of the despised Keneally government in New South Wales. Mr. Windsor and Mr. Oakeshott can no longer claim they are giving stable government. They alone can take the nation to an election and let the people have their say. They must withdraw their support immediately", Senator Williams said. |
