CARBON TAX SURVEY HITS NEW ENGLAND

Residents in the New England electorate will next week get their first chance to voice their support or opposition to a carbon tax.

The Nationals Duty Senator for New England John Williams is distributing over 57,000 survey forms into homes stating both sides of the carbon tax debate.

He said he felt compelled to act after repeated calls for the Member for New England Tony Windsor to carry out a survey fell on deaf ears.

"The carbon tax has been described by the government as a major economic reform. Yet most people I speak with regard it as another tax that will do nothing for the environment.

Perhaps this is the reason Mr. Windsor has elected not to carry out his own survey, fearing the result will be contrary to his position.

There is palpable anger in the New England electorate at Mr. Windsor's refusal to give people a voice on the carbon tax, so I am giving them their democratic right.

I urge people to complete the survey form and return it to my office as soon as possible. Adding their name and address is optional, but if they prefer not to, I would ask that they write their postcode.

The results will be published and presented to Mr. Windsor and Prime Minister Julia Gillard", Senator Williams said.

Thank God someone in the electorate is standing up and doing something.
Unfortunately Tony Windsor has now become a Labour/Green member. His comments regarding the media enquiry, where he sted that some Radio Jocks and Print Media should be investigated, shows that he cannot take criticism of hius blatant supprt of the Gillard Government and also Bob Brow.

Congratulation. Its about time someone ask for our opinion. Windsor certainly will not.

Thank you for organising this survey. I hope as many as possible are given the opportunity to respond to the survey. I for one will be contacting your office to ensure that I will be included in the survey. Tony Windsor does not seem interested in the opinion of his electorate and seems set about to agree with Labour/Greens in spite of his electorate's wishes.

I most definitely believe that Australia, as a wealthy country, should introduce a carbon tax. You don't ask the passengers to fly the plane so why not take the advice of eminently qualified scientists, bite the bullet and at least begin to try to clean up the environment.

Tony Abbott and the shock jocks are playing a dangerous game in stirring up negative feelings in the population. He doesn't speak for me!

Thank you at last someone is listening to the electorate, after all we put the pollies in their place of so called power. I have read both sides of the issue and it does not matter how much they tax the offenders, who in return will just but credits from elsewhere. Throwing money at the problem will not cure it. I do not understand how they think tax will stop seas rising, volcano's erupting, ice caps from melting. Wondering where the taxes were when the ice age happened?? Putting the Australian public on the Tax merry-go-round!! no go we can not afford it, we are after all a small island in the ocean, not Europe or America.

dianne "...eminently qualified scientists..."? There are growing numbers that do not agree the "science is settled". It always was a rather flimsy guess.
Tony and Alan don't speak for me either but they are closer than Tim and Greg.

Thank you for giving us the option of making our views heard.
As this government has snubbed all of us & want to ride rough shot over us.
I definately don't want this so called carbon tax.
It is only another tax grab to get the current government out of a hole.
As a pensioner it is hard enough making ends meet.
At the rate this government is going I can only see this beautiful country sinking.
Most of my life I have supported the labor party & sometimes other parties.
Many years ago the Labor party looked after the battlers that is no longer the case.
I don't understand their thinking a small country like ours has to be the one to bring in this tax, when much larger countries haven't & their emissions are far greater than ours.

Congratulations on this survey. People are trying to make their voices heard about their opposition to this tax, however, the government is treating any opposition with arrogance and contempt (how dare they refer to a convoy of no consquence) and so is Mr Windsor (how dare he refer to people who disagree with him as rednecks) who has forgotten he is meant to represent his constituents. Why is Mr Windsor so vocal is calling for an inquiry into the media and lambasting so called “shock jocks” why is he not calling for an inquiry into the scandal involving the Health Services Union and demanding more answers about this carbon tax that will do nothing for the environment but it will cost jobs in Australia and in New England. Why isn’t he asking the questions we want answered: How much will it cost to administer this tax, what amount of money will go overseas and where will it be spent and by whom, why can the government not name the so called “500 Big Polluters.” If the flow on from the imposition of the tax is so small why is there so much talk of compensation? And most importantly if there is no benefit why are we sacrificing what little manufacturing we have left in this country and allowing it all to go overseas to countries like China where there is little regard for the environment.

Thank you John, for giving a voice to all of us who do not subscribe to the great "carbon tax con". From my studies in anthropology/archaeology and my familiarity with past naturally caused climate change, I think it is very unlikely that tinkering with CO2 levels will have any noticeable effect upon future global climate. There are many other climate change factors operating than the much maligned molecule CO2. Even if one does accept the alarmist global warming position, it should be quite obvious that China's emissions will continue to increase massively for at least the next 25 years. This reality can be seen in sources as varied as "National Geographic" magazine (there was a fascinating account of China's contemporary and projected fossil fuel use a few issues ago; to intelligent commentary in "The Australian", now being attacked by Brown & the Greens. Monday's edition had an illuminating article entitled "The Greening of China a Mirage". Another interesting perspective on the world-wide Green movement written by Vaclav Klaus, P.M. of the Czech republic, is in the current issue of "Quadrant" magazine. What infuriates me are the continual attempts to stifle all rational debate, and the one-sided view of the facts as portrayed by the ABC,ie on what other countries are actually doing as opposed to promising, and the dishonest distortions by opportunist politicians like Mr Windsor. He has betrayed his electorate.
