The Senate is the house of review The Senate can pass, reject or amend legislation after proper scrutiny and debate. But this week, the Australian people have seen the Labor-Greens alliance railroad legislation through without one second of debate. The Nationals Duty Senator for New England John Williams said the government driven by the Greens has demanded a certain amount of legislation be passed each day. If time runs out for debate and there is legislation remaining, it is forced through without one word spoken in debate. Even amendments are not debated before being voted on, leaving Senators unaware of the reasons or ramifications of the amendments. The coalition does not have the numbers to prevent it. It is a bad end to a parliamentary year where the Greens have hijacked democracy, and Labor dances to their tune. |
