NRAC TO REVIEW BUNDARRA EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams says the National Rural Advisory Council (NRAC) will review the Bundarra Exceptional Circumstances declaration later this month.

He said EC was announced for the Bundarra region effective from the 29th of April, 2010, and is due to expire on the 30th of April this year.

Senator Williams said as normal process two representatives from NRAC and an official from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry will tour the area on the 24th of January to see if there is a need to extend the EC assistance.

They will meet with small groups of landholders.

"Today's conditions of lush feed and full dams are a far cry from the bleak picture of almost two years ago when stock were dying, paddocks were bare and many farming families were desperate.

The EC has been the saviour for many, and NRAC now wants to know to what extent farmers have recovered.

For the EC to be rolled over, farmers must show they are still in the recovery process and can support their case with financial and production information.

I intend meeting NRAC during their tour and will be happy to present this information to them. Farmers can either provide their details to my office, Andrew Biddle the District Veterinarian at New England LHPA at Glen Innes or to Lester McCormick at the Department of Primary Industries", Senator Williams said.

Even though the assistance to date has been of a huge assistance the government seems to fail to recognise the time frame required to get a cow to calve out and then withhold heifers from sale in order to increase production and for that unit to grow to join to a bull and then produce progeny of a saleable weight. Yes we have feed and ample water now but not enough stock to produce a liveable income from as yet and cover our ever increasing costs. Good luck on the 24th may they have their listening ears on.
