Smart Farm grants have been awarded to two projects in Richmond to help farmers adopt sustainable and innovative land and natural resource management practices.
The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams said the funding was provided through Round 2 of the Smart Farms Small Grants program to reward innovative proposals that improve farming practices and boost productivity.
He said Tweed Shire Council will receive $36,558 for its project Growing sustainable farms from the ground up where Tweed vegetable growers will be supported to implement best management practices for soils.
Senator Williams said Byron Shire Council will receive $50,000 for its project Managing land in the micro climate of Byron Shire – capacity building for new and lifestyle land managers.

The Coalition Government is investing more than $400,000 to deliver services to improve outcomes for Indigenous Australians living in the Richmond electorate.
Minister for Indigenous Affairs Nigel Scullion said everything the Coalition had delivered since coming to office was delivered in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and designed to help close the gap in disadvantage between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
“We have ensured that the priorities and needs of Indigenous communities have been at the centre of the Coalition Government’s $5 billion Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS).
Applications for funding under Round Four of the Australian government’s Safer Communities Fund are being sought from groups in the Richmond electorate.
The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams says grants of between $50,000 and $1.5 million will be available for eligible applicants which includes schools, pre-schools, community organisations and local councils.
He said the focus is on security infrastructure and activity-based projects that aim to protect children from violent attacks and harassment, and could include fixed or mobile CCTV cameras, security lighting, fencing, bollards, security and alarm systems and community and youth engagement forums.

People living in Eden-Monaro can look forward to improved mobile phone coverage thanks to the Australian government’s $220 million Mobile Black Spot Program.
Minister for Regional Services Bridget McKenzie and Senator for New South Wales John Williams today announced that Eden-Monaro will receive 10 new base stations under the fourth round of the program.
Senator Williams said these will be at Jerangle, Moonbah, Mayfield, Ingebirah, Harolds Cross, Forbes Creek, Rossi, Nerrigundah, Yass River and Rosewood.

Residents in the Bungendore area have received good news with the Federal Government announcing funding under the 2019–20 Black Spot Program.
During his visit to the Eden-Monaro electorate Senator for New South Wales John Williams said $10,415 has been allocated for safety treatment on Hoskinstown Road north of Neils Creek Road at Bungendore.
It will include the marking of barrier and road edge lines, and the installation of new curve and advisory speed signs.
Senator Williams said the community’s input was critical to identifying key black spots in the electorate.
