FUNDING FOR CESSNOCK CLAY TARGET CLUB

The Cessnock Clay Target Club will receive $15,000 under the Federal Government’s Community Development Grants Program.

The Nationals Duty Senator for Hunter John Williams said the club will use the funds to construct a footpath between the shooting pads for disabled access.

Senator Williams visited the Club during the election campaign in the company of the Nationals candidate Michael Johnsen.

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THE END OF THE CARBON TAX

The Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee has recommended the package of bills to repeal the carbon tax be passed.

Senator John Williams, who chairs the Committee, says many groups that appeared as witnesses at the inquiry and others who lodged submissions pointed to the economic burden the carbon tax has placed on business and households for no environmental gain.

TAX RELIEF FLOATED FOR OVERSEAS VOLUNTARY WORK

The Australian Tax Office has been asked to consider if it is feasible to offer some form of tax relief for people who undertake voluntary work overseas at their own expense.

The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams has raised the matter during Senate estimates questioning.

He said just recently a team of Rotary FAIM volunteers had flown to Kokoda in New Guinea to begin work on a Hospital Aids Clinic and also carried out maintenance on other buildings.

Renowned Australian entertainer Kamahl has delivered a powerful recitation of the Gettysburg Address at Parliament House in Canberra.

On the 150th anniversary of the original speech by Abraham Lincoln, the event was organised by the Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams and the Deputy President of the Senate Senator Stephen Parry.

CARBON TAX REPEAL UNDERWAY

True to his word, Prime Minister Tony Abbott today introduced legislation into the House of Representatives to repeal the carbon tax from July 1 next year.

The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams said this will be applauded by the majority of Australians and business who have been weighed down by a tax that was forced upon them.

The Nationals call for Licensed Post Offices changes

Nationals Queensland Senator Ron Boswell and Victorian Senator Bridget McKenzie yesterday raised concerns about the future of Licensed Post Offices at The Nationals party room meeting in Canberra.

Senator Boswell also raised the issue with Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull at the joint party room meeting and will meet with the Minister on Thursday.
