The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams says people who wish to vote for the Liberals and Nationals in the Senate need to take care that they vote correctly.
Senator Williams, who is Number 2 on the NSW Coalition ticket, said hundreds of people across the State who have pre-polled have found they inadvertently voted for the Liberal Democratic Party which drew Box A on the Senate ballot paper.
He said people have realised later they mistakenly voted for the Liberal Democratic Party instead of the Liberals and Nationals which are in Box Y.
“Unfortunately, once they cast their vote nothing can be done to change it.
The mistake is understandable as voters are faced with a large ballot paper and when they look above the line the first name they see is Liberal, and presume that is the Coalition ticket.
It isn’t, so if you wish to vote Liberal and Nationals in the Senate, you should place the number 1 in Box Y above the line, or number all boxes below the line beginning with the Liberals and Nationals.
In the House of Representatives election, you must number every box to make your vote valid”, Senator Williams said.
