The residents of the Hunter electorate gave the Member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon a stark message at the election – start listening to us.
The Nationals Duty Senator for Hunter John Williams says Mr. Fitzgibbon would still be reeling from the fact that he suffered the biggest swing against him of any Labor Member in the State and said the carbon tax was one of the main reasons.
Senator Williams said in his visits to the electorate he found many people who volunteered they had always voted Labor were sick and tired of Mr. Fitzgibbon toeing the Party line to the detriment of his constituents.
He said Mr. Fitzgibbon has the chance to show he is not treating his constituents like fools when the Coalition introduces legislation to abolish the carbon tax.
“Mr. Fitzgibbon should come out now and tell the people of Hunter that he understands the cost of living is crippling them, and he is prepared to acknowledge the Coalition has a mandate to abolish the carbon tax.
This would mean families would be $550 better off in 2014-15 and $900 a year better off in 2019-20 if Labor’s carbon tax is gone.
His alternative is to hide behind the lost Labor legion and allow more financial pain to be inflicted on Hunter residents”, Senator Williams said.
