FIRST STEP IN REPEAL OF CARBON TAX

Today the Coalition government has taken the first step to remove the carbon tax impost from the Australian people and business.

The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams says the carbon tax repeal bills have been released for public consideration and it will be the first item of business when Parliament resumes.

Senator Williams said removing the carbon tax will lower costs for business, boost growth and ease the cost of living pressures for households which will be $550 better off in the first year and $3,000 better off over the next six years.

The household assistance already provided will not be touched.

He said the Climate Change Authority will be abolished, but carbon tax industry assistance including the Jobs and Competitiveness Program, will continue until June 30 next year to assist affected businesses.

“This is the first test for the new Labor leadership.

They have been crowing about their brief flirtation with democracy by having the rank and file vote for the new Labor leader.

Mr. Shorten must also heed the rank and file who voted on September 7 to install a Coalition government and gave it the mandate to get rid of the carbon tax.

If Labor and the Greens continue to oppose, they are showing Australians they don’t respect their decision and are happy to see them struggling with everyday costs”, Senator Williams said.
